8 FALL COCKTAILS THAT EVERY MAN SHOULD KNOW HOW TO MAKE

Yes, there are special cocktails for every time of the year, there is nothing more refreshing than a mojito in the summer, a Gin Tonic with citrus touches is perfect for spring, winter comes with its punches, Hot Toddys and the famous Christmas Eggnogg, and autumn also has a few good cocktails to celebrate the fall of the leaves and the beginning of the best season of the year.

Fall is the season of apples and pumpkins, of cinnamon-scented desserts, and it's those elements that become the inspiration for a few foolproof drinks that will ultimately become favorites of many, from a modified Manhattan to a classic Old Fashioned.

When it comes to alcohol you have two options, go to your favorite bar for a creation from your favorite mixologist, or learn (learn more here) a few tricks to impress your friends (or yourself) on those days when you're craving to stay home, and that's why there are already a few recipes that, once you master them, you're going to want to keep making until the end of winter.

The fall cocktails you need to make:

Autumn Fizz

Ingredients

2 oz of gin

.25 oz lemon juice

Agave nectar, to taste

Sparkling apple cider

Garnished with thyme and apple

Instructions

Pour gin into a shaker, add lemon juice and agave nectar, shake, then serve in a high ball glass and top with sparkling cider. Garnish with fresh thyme and a slice of apple.

Campfire Sling

Ingredients

2 oz of whiskey (rye)

.25 oz pure maple syrup (amber grade A recommended)

3 dashes of chocolate bitters

Orange twist with burnt orange oil

Instructions

Add all ingredients to an Old Fashioned glass with a large chunk of ice. Stir well. Release the oils from the orange zest through a flaming wooden chopstick over the surface of the drink and serve. (A cocktail and a show at the same time).

Apple Cider Mimosas

Ingredients

1 bottle of champagne

1 cup apple cider

2 tablespoons sugar

1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

In a small dish, combine the sugar and cinnamon. Dip the champagne flutes in water to wet the rims, then place them in the sugar and cinnamon mixture. Fill champagne flutes 1/4 full with apple cider, then top with champagne.

Kentucky Mulled Cyder

Hot apple cider to cover

Pinch of allspice

Cinnamon stick

Lemon wedge

Instructions

Add the bourbon to a mug. Fill the mug with hot apple cider and a pinch of allspice. Garnish with a tall cinnamon stick and a lemon slice.

Caramel Apple Mule

Ingredients

1.5 oz of vodka

.5 oz of caramel

1 oz apple cider

Ginger beer

Instructions

Shake all ingredients with ice. Strain into a mug over ice, top with ginger beer. Garnish with an apple fan.

Raising Manhattan

Ingredients

1.5 oz Applejack (an alcoholic beverage made from apples)

1 oz Vermouth

.5 oz of Sherry

10 drops of mole bitters

Instructions

Mix ingredients with ice. Strain into a glass.

Old Fashioned

Ingredients

1 ½ oz of Bourbon

2 dashes Angostura Bitters

1 sugar cube

Pinch of plain water

Orange Twist

Maraschino cherry

Directions

Place a sugar cube in an Old Fashioned glass and sprinkle with bitters, add a splash of plain water. Crush until the sugar dissolves. Fill the glass with a large ice cube (for this cocktail it is better to have a large one than crushed ice) and add the bourbon. Garnish with the orange twist and finish with the maraschino cherry (optional).
